"No dawn, no day, I'm always in this twilight..."

Episode 3x11 Spoilers

In the midst of all that had happened, all Isaac wanted was to be able to offer Stiles some level of comfort... Some promise that everything would be okay, and that Isaac would be the one there to protect him and keep him safe through it all. But when the time had come to pair off each of the children of the chosen Guardians with their anchor, Isaac had been stunned to hear Deaton pairing Lydia with Stiles. Everything within him screamed out that this wasn't right. He should be the one there, holding his boyfriend, staying connected to him through it all, regardless of whether or not anyone else knew what they were... Regardless of whether they'd even officially termed it. Officially, maybe not, but Isaac knew in his heart that he and Stiles were together.

But when Stiles stepped into the ice water, Isaac was reminded all too vividly of his own experience with the very same thing. And when the time came for them to go under completely, Lydia at his side holding Stiles under the water, while Isaac did the same to Allison, it hit him hard and fast exactly why Deaton hadn't chosen him to be Stiles' anchor. As Stiles head went underwater, it was almost as if Isaac could feel it himself. It hadn't been too long since he'd experienced exactly this, and his eyes turned, only for a moment, to Stiles. And everything he should've said before now flooded to the forefront of his mind. Stiles knew Isaac liked him... was attracted to him and wanted to date him. But he didn't know that Isaac would gladly lay down his own life in Stiles' place -- that he would do anything to protect him and keep him safe. And that he was pretty sure that this was what falling in love felt like, and fuck did he wish he'd told him all of that before now. And he knew without a doubt that if he'd been in Lydia's place, he wouldn't have been able to hold Stiles under and let him die, even if he could be brought back.

He thought that his glance at Stiles had been quick enough not to be noticed, but when he looked away, both Deaton and Lydia had glanced over at him just in time to catch the desperate glance at the other boy. All he could do at that point was try to act casual and turn his eyes back to look at Allison... And pray to whatever of the Powers that Be might listen to a gay werewolf that Stiles would make it back out so that he could tell him all the things he should have told him already.
